❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Is my bank statement data safe? +
Absolutely. This tool runs entirely inside your web browser. Your PDF file is read directly on your device — it is never uploaded to any server, never stored in any database, and never transmitted over the internet. The PDF is processed using a JavaScript library (PDF.js) that runs locally, and the Excel file is generated on your device using SheetJS. Your financial data never leaves your computer at any point.
Which banks are supported? +
The converter uses intelligent pattern recognition to detect transaction rows from any bank statement in the world. It looks for rows containing dates (in common formats), descriptions, and monetary amounts. It works well with statements from major banks including HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds, NatWest, Santander, Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citibank, TD Bank, Commonwealth Bank, ANZ, NAB, SBI, HDFC, ICICI and hundreds of others. Results may vary slightly by bank depending on how they format their PDF files.
Why are some transactions missing or incorrect? +
Bank statement PDFs come in many formats. Some banks produce text-based PDFs where extraction is highly accurate. Others produce image-based or scanned PDFs where the text layer is limited or absent — in these cases fewer transactions may be detected. If your statement is a scanned image PDF, results will be limited. You can always manually edit, add or delete rows in the table preview before downloading your Excel file.
Can I edit the data before downloading? +
Yes. Every cell in the transaction table is editable — simply click on any cell and type to change the value. You can also add new rows using the "Add Row" button, or delete any row using the ✕ button on the right. Make all your corrections first, then download the final clean Excel or CSV file.
What is the difference between Excel and CSV download? +
The Excel (.xlsx) download produces a fully formatted spreadsheet with column headers, bold text, and proper cell formatting that opens natively in Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc and Google Sheets. The CSV download produces a plain comma-separated text file that is compatible with virtually every piece of accounting, bookkeeping and financial software including QuickBooks, Xero, FreshBooks and Wave.
Bank Statement Converter transforms PDF bank statements into clean, organised Excel files instantly in your browser. No uploads, no servers, no data sharing. Upload your PDF, review extracted transactions, and download a structured XLS/CSV file in seconds.
